Care of “Artwear by Jackie”
Wet Felted Hats:
Water will not hurt the hats! The whole process of making them is done with lots of warm water and a small amount of soap. They are then given a good rinse before the final shaping, drying and steaming. These hats are great for rainy weather as they are made using fine merino wool and will shed light rain fall. They will not shrink. If the hat does get wet, simply blot it with a towel, reshape and let dry. To reshape it is best to put it on your head and using your hands gently reform the brim to your desired shape. Put on a styrofoam head form, or in a pinch when traveling on a lamp shade (light turned off). You can also steam the hat when it is dry (off your head of course) to reshape. Any light soil can be remove with a damp sponge. You can spray the hat with a good quality fabric guard if you wish.
I can adjust most of the hats by a size or two larger or smaller. I do take custom orders to make sure you get the style, color and size you want.
Silk Kimono Jackets and Scarves:
I recommend hand washing, hang to dry and light iron if desired. Never Dry clean! I begin these lovely creations with pure white high quality silk which I put through a washing with a special cleanser. I then make the kimono jacket before dyeing it. The process of dyeing is done with professional dyes and water. Once the silk is dyed I wash it again to make sure the color is set and won’t run. After it is dry, I iron on silk setting. I recommend hand washing, hang to dry and light iron if desired. Never Dry clean!
Leather Purse and Bags:
I use the finest quality buttery soft Deer Skin to create these items. I spray the entire leather item with a good quality leather protectant. This helps to protect from soil. I recommend reapplying based on your use. Lighter colors of course may show soil easier than the darker colors. Light soil may be remove by a slightly damp sponge. There are also good leather cleaning products that can help remove any soil. Don’t worry if the leather looks wet, it will dry.
Treat you finely handcrafted item with care and they should last you a very long time ! Enjoy!
