Big Canyon Artisans is a small family concern. Founded in 2012 by Barney & Jackie Scholl, husband and wife to bring you quality hand-made items. All products are created one at a time using original designs and the best quality materials available. I strive to use natural, sustainable materials when available. Many of which Barney and I would find on our travels in the Western U.S. Such as wool fibers from Oregon and
deer skins from Washington. My products currently include Wearable Art Originals by Jackie. Which may include felted wool hats, hand dyed silk jackets and scarves, and deer skin bags. One of a Kind Distinctive Gifts and Home Accessories. Handcrafted Wood Furniture by Barney is no longer available since his passing in 2019. Jackie's one of a kind creations come from years of working with various mediums of art and a long career in the fashion and beauty industry. "My passion is working with natural fibers and beautiful colors (hand dyeing and painting most of the silk and wool I use) which gives me the freedom of design I desire. Often I start with an idea in mind and find that the fibers and colors "take charge" and I end up with something totally different..but fabulous! I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it. "Walk in nature and revel in God's treasures" Jackie |
This is an example of Barney and Jackie's creations that graces the entry of their home, showing their appreciation for the Southwest. Jackie's handmade quilt hangs from a piece of manzanita found in their yard and sports glass beads on leather cord. The shelf below the quilt was designed to compliment the quilt and was built by Barney. He hand carved the relief design in the front, Jackie imbedded the crushed turquoise in the raised arrow and then finished it with her custom mixed paint scheme. Truly a collaboration of their talents and creativity! A collection of small Native American vessels from their travels feel right at home here. |
